Sorry for the late post update. I was busy mending broken
pieces of Windows. Well, today we will learn more about Operating Systems (OS).
OS are the main core software in your computer. They are the neurons in the
brains that put all the muscles (hardware) into good use. Without an OS, you
would have a computer with nothing running on it. OS gives the Graphic User
Interface (GUI) and some might only give you a text based interface. There are
many types of OS. The major ones are Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Windows 7 interface
The largest group of users belongs to Windows. Windows was
created by Microsoft and has been around ever since. It is a great tool that
runs on many platforms including Apple’s Macs. It has a user –friendly
environment, and due to its large number of users, Windows have great compatibility.
Windows is great for gaming and office use. Started with NT for consumers, Windows has
come to its latest version, Windows 7. Windows 8 might hit the market very
soon. Windows are supported well by
servers and many networking devices. It is prone to virus attacks and failures,
however users are able to troubleshoot and make repairs by themselves. The iconic
Start Menu feature is a great tool to
begin with in Windows. Microsoft Windows are affordable and have many licensing
choices that come with different technical supports and features.

Mac OSX interface
Next, just as important as Windows, is Mac OSX. The OSX is
developed by Apple, and can only fully run on Apple’s Macs. If Windows is a
workaholic taxpaying 9-5 worker, Mac is the owner of a 5-Star hotel. Since
Apple couples OSX with its own hardware, performance is always optimized giving
OSX an astonishingly beautiful interface. However, compatibility becomes an
issue as the user group is smaller. However, Apple tries its best to integrate
Windows apps into OSX. Unlike Windows, OSXs hardly get any virus attacks but
have less gaming capabilities due to its limited hardware choice. Yet, OSXs are
great for artists, musicians, and users who needs a great experience and able
to afford the hefty price tag.

Linux Fedora 16 interface
Last but not least is Linux. Linux is a unique OS. There is
nothing much to talk about in MouseWrench, because Linux is not much of a
consumer product. It is a great tool for developers, hackers, and curious ones.
Linux started text-based, but now they
have many GUIs as well. Linux Fedora and Ubuntu have great interfaces, just as
pretty as Windows or OSX. However, most people don’t get the idea of typing in
lines of command to install an app. Clicking sounds much safer. The upside of
Linux is, it’s FREE. It was free, is free, and always be free. It has a public
license. You can edit any of the OS running on Linux core, and publish it with
your own name without getting copyright issues.
There you go, those are all the OS you should know. So, next
time when someone asks, what’s Windows, tell its an OS! Microsoft Word is not
Windows. =P All OS are considered softwares and comes in many forms such as
DVDs, CDS, or image files. =)
